All of the children, including my reluctant readers, loved using StoryPhones to read books
Anne Metcalfe, KS1 Teacher, South Stanley Infants
Ameeca, the StoryPhones company, was founded by Simon Johnson and Eleanor Johnson. Eleanor conceived the idea of StoryPhones whilst she was teaching young children, recognising a need to modernise the way of delivering audio resources. Many of the features of StoryPhones have grown out of her understanding of the needs of children and practitioners to have a flexible, easy to use system for listening to stories, songs and games. Simon’s extensive experience of hardware and software design and development, enabled him to take Eleanor’s concept and to develop it into StoryPhones.
The 'StoryPhones Education Team' provides our resources and content available online. The team consists of Eleanor Johnson and Kirstie Page.
Kirstie is a Speech and Language Therapist who specialised in the Early Years. Whilst working at Sure Start Stanley, Kirstie became more interested in the impact speech and language skills have on all children’s learning and their ability to access learning environments and activities. This led her to train as a teacher and she has since taught in KS1 and the Foundation Stage. Kirstie now works for Ameeca, the StoryPhones company as Educational Consultant. She also works as a Freelance Speech and Language Consultant offering training to practitioners.
Eleanor trained to
be an Early Years Teacher in 1984, after completing her Degree at Leicester University and has taught in the
Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1. In 2001 Eleanor began teaching children with Speech and Language
difficulties. From 2003 to 2005 she was Project Coordinator for a
language intervention project which won a national award from the
Deputy Prime Ministers Office for 'Innovation in Education'. Eleanor has also gained a postgraduate certificate in 'Language and Communication Impairment in Children' from Sheffield University.
